Niall Maher is coming to the end of his loan spell but Lee Clark has told the Blackpool Gazette that he sees him having ‘an opportunity’ to play some games coming up and talks are underway about extending his loan at Bloomfield.

Maher is scheduled to return to Bolton after the game against Blackburn on Saturday, even though he’s only played twice – including the seven-two thrashing at Watford, but Clark’s keen to keep him.

Not only has he revealed that we’re ‘in conversation’ with his parent club about extending his loan he’s suggested we’ll be looking to keep him with him keen to give the 19-year-old some games in the upcoming ones as he’s impressed him in training.

‘I think he showed his quality and we believe he can be a good player.

‘We are in conversation with Bolton at this moment in time to make that until the end of the season.

‘I think there’s an opportunity coming up for him to start some games.’

The defender is under contract with Bolton for another year but Clark feels we should be able to arrange something to bring him in on a permanent basis in the summer, first and foremost though he wants to extend his services until the end of the season.

Speaking of end of the season our former winger Chris Eagles has found a new club as he’s signed for Charlton until the season end having seen his short-term deal with us end last month, and not renewed….
