Madine’s strike was his third for the club since arriving at Bloomfield Road on a loan spell from Sheffield Wednesday and it was also our first goal of March, given our six successive losses and the player explained to the Official Site that it was a little bit of experienced nous that got him the goal.

‘I stood two yards offside before the free-kick and as they dropped I nudged my defender to get myself onside. It was a great free-kick by Andrea Orlandi and the keeper got a touch to put it onto the bar, thankfully it’s dropped right into my path and I got my head on it.’

Madine goes on to say that having now hit three goals in nine appearances, he’s hoping to improve that conversion ratio between now and the end of the season because he’s come here to score goals.

‘I’m trying to get goals here, I’ve got three now all at home and hopefully I can get a couple more.’

With manager Lee Clark saying he felt we had done enough to get all three points and the victory, that was a sentiment that Madine echoed, although obviously given our form he was thankful for at least a point and an end to our losing streak.

‘We definitely had enough in the game to win. I thought we were the better side and they’ll be more than happy with a point. The Gaffer wants us to play in the right areas, when you get the ball high up the pitch take risks. One lapse in concentration cost us the game, 98 minutes we played and for 97 we played the conditions really well. It’s tough out there, but we did well.’
