Managerial Merry – go round

The latest man to part company with his club is Ian Holloway who has resigned his post as Plymouth Argyle manager. Holloway looks set to take over at Leicester City, leaving the Pilgrims on the look out for a new boss.

Holloway’s name can now be added to the list of Championship managers who have left their post already this season. Mssrs Grant, Taylor, Gregory, Allen and Megson (both Leicester), Simpson and Cotterill make up the incredibly long list of managerial casualities in The Championship this term.

Let’s hope that Plymouth don’t come sniffing up here for Larry to take their hot seat. Grayson seems to be linked with just about every job going at the moment so the news that a new, improved contract is being drawn up to keep the gaffer at Bloomers is welcoming indeed. There’s no doubt Simon deserves a longer contract for the miracles he has worked.

So how many more managers will bite the bullet before the season is out? I wouldn’t bet against another four or five picking up their P45s in the not to distant future. Football is fast becoming a ruthless industry, based purely on results. And if you aren’t getting them, then there’s only one outcome – the sack!
