New manager Neil McDonald has said he believes that Colin Doyle and Kyle Letheren will be the perfect competition for each other in 2015-16.
Speaking to the Official Site having brought both stoppers in in recent days, McDonald explained that he felt the competition between them and their attitude would push them both into good form and help them to bring the best out of each other in League One in the coming campaign.
‘It`s going to be really good competition for both of them. They`ve both got stature and they`re both really good shot stoppers, and they command the area very well. It will be good competition between them two to see who is going to be number one. That`s us all sorted now on the goalkeeping front, it`s now about trying to recruit the outfield players in different positions to try and bring the squad together.’
With former Carlisle youngster Brad Potts coming in as our first outfield signing, McDonald said of the 20 year old midfielder.
‘I saw him play this season against Wimbledon and he actually scored that day and I was well impressed. My best friend, who is the academy director and used to be the youth coach there, spoke very highly of him. He’s a young midfield player who has got lots and lots of promise. He`s got lots and lots of progress to do and I`m certainly going to help him with that on the training field.’
The gaffer also confirmed that he was hopeful of securing more signings quickly in the future as we certainly had irons in the fire at the moment and it’s just about trying to get them over the line now.
‘We`ve got a few irons in the fire and are trying to get answers. The response that I`ve had so far has been really good and we`re looking to bring in at least two this week. We still need to strengthen and we still need plenty of players so we’ll be on the phone all the time, all the way until we come in on the 29 June.’
