Colin Webster was the man in black for Blackpool`s 1-0 defeat against Ipswich Town on Saturday – so much for my lucky omen tag I stitched onto him last week!

But how did the referee do? No one seems quite sure; the results are a mixed bag.

Ratings ranged from three to nine, and opinions differed greatly, which gave him a relatively healthy rating of 5.9 – although some way short of what he deserved in my opinion.

Quotes:

‘good overall however had a dodgy 10 minute spell in the 2nd half but deserves a 7….’

‘His assistants were dodgy but I thought he had a reasonable game!’

‘As said above, apart from a poor 10 minutes (let’s not forget most of the players had a poor 90!) I thought he was the best yet this season.’

‘He was making the decisions for throw ins that were over ruling the liners despite them being in the better position to make the call. He was also close enough to see the elbow on Barker that was a straight red but he bottled that with giving only a yellow.’

‘I was going to give him 8 untill the last 20 mins when he seemed to loose the plot. He missed the red card or maybe he did not want to see it and no 11 and no 25 should have been booked for consistant fouls.’

‘I thought that he was very good in the first half but made some questionable decisions in the second. Still, he’s the best that we’ve had this season by some margin.’
