Expect cards. Lots of them. Mike Dean’s in town!

The FIFA listed referee has been appointed to take charge of the Lancashire derby between Blackpool and Preston at Bloomfield Road on Sunday.

And it’s fair to say that Dean has had a ‘tricky’ start to this campaign. In his 13 matches officiated, he has produced no less than 54 yellow cards and sent seven players off.

On Sunday afternoon Dean was the man in black for the Manchester City v Spurs game in the Premiership, and flashed three red cards. Whilst in the steel city derby between Sheffield Wednesday and United two players were sent for an early bath.

So you can guess his style of refereeing!

The Seasiders and Knob End could be in for an afternoon of cautioning – hopefully this isn’t the case.

But Dean does have great credentials. He has refereed an FA Cup final (2008), a Championship playoff final (2006) and a Community Shield final.

Perhaps his statistics this season don’t tell the whole story. After all, he should be better than the referees we’re used to.
