Blackpool have today confirmed that Bobby Mimms has come into Bloomfield Road as our new goalkeeping coach.
The 51 year old has worked previously alongside our new manager Neil McDonald as he was with him at West Ham last season and he will officially turn up for work next Monday to begin his duties.
It’s not the only time they have worked together either and that understanding can only help us on the pitch in 2015-16.
As a player, he racked up over 500 career appearances in spells with the likes of Everton, Tottenham Hotspur and Blackburn Rovers and he’s now a hugely respected coach having had roles at Wolverhampton Wanderers, Blackburn Rovers and West Ham obviously most recently.
Speaking to the Official Site about his appointment, he explained.
‘Obviously pre-season is coming up and I think it`s important to be at the club from day one. I`ve worked with Neil at Blackburn and West Ham as a coach, and we played together at Preston, so go back a long way. We know we work well together, so it was definitely a no-brainer to come to Blackpool and continue that.’
With Mimms coming in for the first day of the players’ return to pre season training, it’s been timed well and he’ll now work with new signings Colin Doyle and Kyle Letheren as well as Myles Boney in the coming season.
It’s not the only appointment Blackpool have made today either, as we have also appointed a new club secretary.
Nick Alford come in in that position and he comes with good experience having spent 12 years with Cardiff City, including their season in the Premier League.
Like Mimms, he begins officially next Monday as the players return.
Alford said himself of the appointment.
‘I`m really pleased to be back working at a football club, and Blackpool represents a real opportunity for me. It`s exciting times ahead for the club and I hope my experience can only be beneficial during the course of the season. Obviously this is a busy period behind the scenes, with plenty of work to be done between now and August, and I can`t wait to get started.’
His appointment sees him replace Chris Hough who has held the role for the last 13 months.
