New manager Neil McDonald has revealed that he was on the phone within hours of taking the job, speaking to club legend Jimmy Armfield about the challenge he faces at Bloomfield Road.
Audio – More From McDonald
Speaking to the official site he explained.
‘He’s Blackpool through and through and that really rubbed off on me when I spoke to him. I’ve got to try and bring the smile back to him, as well as everybody else. The supporters haven’t seen their team win for quite a while so a big part of my job is to make sure we win football games and put a smile on their faces. My job is to get the team into a winning situation and to try and excite them. The football team is my priority.’
With Ritchie Kyle stepping up from youth team duties to our first team coach, it won’t be the only change to the structure at the club as McDonald admits there is room in his budget to add more staff.
‘There is scope to bring other people in, which is great because I think the whole place needs a bit of freshening up. We need staff to come in with a brightness about them to try and change the atmosphere around the club. We’re going to be working hard, and hopefully the new people that I can try and bring in will give that to the football club and to the players.’
One change that will be required, is a new Head of Recruitment appointment as Malcolm Crosby has now left the club to return to a managerial role with Conference side Gateshead.
Crosby moved to us under former manager Lee Clark back in November 2014.
