The first annual Tangerine Tournament took place at Stanley Park on Saturday, with seven BFC fan based teams taking part.

The teams were:
Blackpool VitalFootball
Tangerine Planet
SAS
Blackpool Mad
Yorkshire Seasiders
Football Made Squeezy
Highfield Seasiders

So, game on. Two groups. Group 1 having four teams, Blackpool VitalFootball, Tangerine Planet, Highfield Seasiders and Football made squeezy. Tangerine Planet cruised through to the semis with maximum points, followed by Football made squeezy, who finished just ahead of Vital on goal difference. This meant that Vital along with Highfield went to the plate. Group 2 had only three teams, with Blackpool Mad, Yorkshire Seasiders and SAS. This saw Yorkshire and SAS go through to the semis and Blackpool Mad playing Highfield for the chance to play for the plate.

The semi finals. In the plate semi, Blackpool Mad notched up their first victory of the competition, against Highfield Seasiders, winning 1-0. They went onto play Blackpool VitalFootball.

In the semis that really mattered, SAS played Football Made Squeezy with Yorkshire playing Tangerine Planet. Both were tight affairs, one goal in either of them. The SAS won (in contraversial fashion after a confusion over the lenght of the game), as did Tangerine Planet, who would meet in the final.

The eventual winners were Tangerine Planet, beating SAS on penalties in the final, after a nail biting 1-1 draw. Steve Canavan missed a penalty, then the excellent Will Watt scored the opener, only for SAS to equalise and send it to pens, whish Planet won, only after John Woodman missed.

More importantly (tongue firmily in cheek!), Blackpool VitalFootball took home the plate as they beat Blackpool Mad with goals from TorontoPool(2) and Josh McGarry, the latter scoring the all important golden goal within a minute of the extra period. Dill and goalkeeper Paul Knight scoring for the runners up.

We would like to thank everyone who took part, with it in a team or just watching. Special mentions have to go to Dale Air, Glynn Jones and Derek Woodman BMW for their continued support and sponorship towards the competition, whom we could not have even dreamt about making a tournament such as this. I’d also like to add the fact that everybody were still in high spirits as the rain poured down.

Winners: Tangerine Planet
Plate Winners: Blackpool VitalFootball

The player of the tournament and golden boat awards will be handed out at the Rotherham game, but I must say it’s looking like the brilliant Will Watt will scoop both. Marvellous performances from him.

A fantastic day, with over £150 going to BFC school of excellence.
