Chairman Karl Oyston has appealed the charge the FA levied against him following his text messages to a fan last December.

Having already publicly apologised for the language used in those texts, the FA charged him after a three month investigation and gave him extra time to respond.

It’s believed the deadline for a response was last week, but he answered in good time.

An independent tribunal will now look into the case and decide the outcome.

Should they find against him he could face a lengthy fine and ban from the game.
