Tony Parkes says that he’s ‘disappointed’ that his Blackpool side couldn’t hold on for three points away at Sheffield United last night.

The 59-year-old, who is caretaker boss at Bloomfield Road until the end of the season, said ‘We were disappointed as we thought we may have got a win. But confidence is high at the minute and we have played very well in the two games.’

And in a side-swipe at ‘Pool’s opponents last night, Parkes added that ‘There are better teams than Sheffield United in the top six.’

But he was more focussed on whether The Tangerines could stay in the division, although wavering on one question from the local press, as he stated that ‘We will stay up, I have to believe that.’

Whether or not Parkes believes it or not, something has clearly clicked in the last two games against Norwich and The Blades. Goalscorer Nick Blackman, as he spoke to reporters after the final whistle, said that ‘The coaching staff before the game said they would take a point so it shows what a great result it was for us,’ so perhaps Parkes – just as he orchestrated in 2006 when we were heading for League Two – is right to remain economical for a point here and there.

Incidentally Blackman, who notched his first goal for the club last night, clearly believes ‘Pool will steer clear of the drop.

‘You look around the changing room and you have to think there is enough to avoid relegation. If we carry on going the way we are going then we shouldn’t have a problem,’ the on loan youngster said.

your cup final in front of 25,000 +, rest my case. you over performed last night because of the opposition you were playing, just like the poor relations on the other side of the city divide. every side has a bad game and that was our worst performance of the season for me. we had the chances to put the game to bed late on but we just couldnt convert them!! fancy us in the playoff though now!!
