Manager Gary Bowyer has revealed a striker boost ahead of the game against Colchester United this weekend.

Danny Philliskirk has been out of action since the opening day of the season having picked up an ankle injury in a challenge with team mate Brad Potts as they both went for the ball.

After working with the physios, Philliskirk returned to full training earlier this week, and Bowyer admitted that his progress had been good and he could come back into contention.

Speaking to the Official Site in his pre game press conference, Bowyer said of the 25 year old.

‘He was doing ever so well and playing some very good football. He was just starting to strike a partnership up with Kyle Vassell. Him coming back now obviously gives us another option, but he has the ability to play out wide as well so it’ll be like getting two players back.’

With Jamille Matt being out since the League Cup game against Bolton Wanderers will a knee problem of his own, Bowyer also revealed that he might make a training return on Friday – but obviously Colchester would come too quick you would think.

‘We certainly hope that he might join in on Friday with training and that will give me a selection problem, but it’s certainly a nice one.’

Kelvin Mellor was also interviewed ahead of the game and he looked at the defensive showings so far this season, with Blackpool picking up their third clean sheet of the campaign in the last game against Yeovil Town.

‘It`s going to be a similar game to Yeovil, they`re going to look to pump it a bit but it`s nothing we can`t deal with. Yeovil did it against us and we kept a clean sheet so we`ll be looking for the same thing. Obviously they got relegated so want to instantly be bouncing back. It`s going to be a tough place to go but it`s definitely a game we can win.’

As for Colchester, he added.

‘There`s a lot of travelling involved but as a group of players we`re more than capable of dealing with that and not make excuses. Our preparation has been good before games and recovery is big in this league because of all the trips down south, but we`re doing fine.’
