According to Sky Sports, Portsmouth are close to signing Luke Varney from Derby County for a fee believed to be in the region of £750,000.

Varney of course spent last season on loan with the Seasiders, and the 28 year old forward recently stated that he would love to sign for the club permanently.

However, it would appear that ‘Pool manager Ian Holloway has elected not to take up our option to sign him permanently for just £250,000 despite Varney generally impressing in the Premier League, instead opting to sign left sided attacker Bojan Djordic on a free transfer instead.
