Pompey Linked With Evatt

According to the Daily Mail, Portsmouth have made an offer of £1 million for Blackpool centre half Ian Evatt.

Despite his final day own goal at Old Trafford, Evatt was one of the stand-out performers last season for the Seasiders; winning the Vital Player of the Season award, being ranked as one of the best defenders in the Premier League by Opta, and linked with an England call-up.

‘Pool activated their one year option on Evatt’s contract back in May, and the player’s wife has claimed on Twitter in the last week that he is very happy to stay at Blackpool and would be delighted to sign a new contract should the club offer him one (and Vital suggests that they do, and the sooner the better – we don’t want another David Vaughan situation, so we?).

However, despite this, the Mail claim that Pompey boss Steve Cotterill has offered £1 million for the defender’s services, with the newspaper reporting that he has been handed funds to build a side capable of challenging for promotion next season.
