Vital Sheffield Wednesday are this afternoon reporting that the Owls have rejected a bid from Blackpool for striker Marcus Tudgay.

Here at Vital Blackpool we have been aware of ‘Pool’s bid for the player for several days, and indeed enquired about the news with our contacts in Sheffield, who until today had heard nothing about it.

But Wednesday manager Alan Irvine has confirmed what our sources in Blackpool told us; that ‘Pool had made a bid for the player, but added that that bid has been rejected.

‘Yeah, there was one phone call, one club showing an interest in Marcus but they were well short of anything that would tempt us to do anything with Marcus,’ said Irvine.

‘It was a Premier League club who made the enquiry but they didn’t make a Premier League club’s offer so it’s the end of that as far as I’m concerned.’

Although Irvine doesn’t mention the Seasiders by name, here at Vital we are 100% sure that we are the club that he is referring to.

And although it should be noted that he claims that we ‘didn’t make a Premier League club’s offer’ which could well suggest that the Seasiders have made yet another pitiful offer for a player, the Owls do have a large valuation of Tudgay after rejecting several offers for the player from Burnley last summer.

Vital Wednesday also claim that the Seasiders are interested in winger Jermaine Johnson. Again, we can confirm this to be true.

However, the Seasiders face competition for the player from Nottingham Forest who have also made a bid for the player as they seek to replace Nathan Tyson who is likely to leave the City Ground this summer, with sources in Nottingham informing us that the club are planning for him to leave and would not ignore any bids for him.

In a nice little ironic twist, it is our understanding that the second £1 million player that the Seasiders have bid for is actually Tyson, but that they face competition from Bolton and Southampton for him.

Should be looking at better players than Tudgay if they want to stay up. A few players available on loan who would make more of a difference (James Vaughan springs to mind).
