‘Pool Deadline Day Bids Draw Criticism

Ipswich Town boss Paul Jewell and Sheffield United manager Danny Wilson have both moved to criticise Blackpool over transfer deadline day bids for their players.

‘Pool endured a torrid transfer deadline day, and if Jewell and Wilson are to be believed, that was partly down to the derisory bids that the Seasiders were making.

Speaking to the press at Portman Road yesterday, Jewell claimed that ‘Pool’s bid for striker Jason Scotland fell well below the £350,000 previously reported, but that Ian Holloway’s side had been given permission to speak to Scotland whilst the two clubs tried to negotiate a fee – something that became redundant after Scotland’s representatives failed to agree terms with Blackpool chairman Karl Oyston.

Jewell said:

‘Blackpool made an enquiry and we gave them permission to speak to Jason. They spoke to his agent but they couldn’t agree personal terms.’

The Tractor Boys were believed to want closer to £750,000 for the experienced target man.

Meanwhile, Blades boss Danny Wilson has been a lot more forthright in his criticism of the tangerines.

Speaking to the official Sheffield United website, Wilson said:

‘The offer [for midfielder Stephen Quinn] was an absolute mess so there is no point in talking about it. It was turned down big style, it was an embarrassing offer and I wouldn’t have even made if I was in their [Blackpool’s] position.’

However, sources within the Seasiders camp have claimed that the Blades raised their asking price for Quinn at the last possible moment, preventing a deal from being done.

Vital contacted BFC the morning after deadline day to ask for an interview with either chairman Karl Oyston or club secretary Matt Williams, but unfortunately our request was declined.

However, it is believed that Oyston will speak to selected members of the press in the near future on the matter and it’ll be interesting to see how he reacts to Jewell’s and Wilson’s claims!
