Vital Blackpool understands that the Seasiders are in pole position to sign trialist James Caton should they decide to offer him a contract.
The 18 year old left winger has featured twice for the Seasiders this weekend; missing an open goal against Hyde yesterday, but doing considerably better today by netting the second in a 2-0 over Everton in Keith Southern’s testimonial.
Caton is a free agent after electing to leave Bolton this summer in the pursuit of more regular football, and recently had a trial at Derby where he is said to have impressed.
However it is understood that Rams boss Nigel Clough elected not to offer the teenager a contract because he believes that he already has enough depth out wide, especially after recently signing one time ‘Pool target and fellow left winger Michael Jacobs from Northampton Town.
Despite the likes of Burnley, Sheffield Wednesday and Nottingham Forest all rumoured to have registered an interest in the player with his agents McHale Sports, the Seasiders are now believed to be at the front of the queue to sign the player – should they elect to follow up their interest.
However, it appears that Caton would be only considered for the development squad, with his agent himself admitting that the player ‘is very raw, but has huge potential’.
Meanwhile, Algerian trialist Adda Djeziri also made his second appearance for the Seasiders this afternoon from the bench, although there was no sign of either Banvo Anderson or Brice Irie-Bi as the Seasiders continue to wait for the green light to sign both players. There was also no sign of trialist Matheus Vivian, and it is not known whether the Brazilian centre half remains at the club.
