It has been reported that Blackpool are keeping track on the summer progress of Mark Fotheringham, who is a target for La Liga giants Espanyol.

The midfielder has been released by recently relegated Norwich City and is free to look for another club.

And ‘SkySports’ are today broadcasting that the 25-year-old will travel to Spain to speak to the Catalans – who were runners up in the 2007 Uefa Cup.

Formerly The Canaries club captain from 2007 to 2009, Fotheringham was stripped of the armband in March when he stormed out of Carrow Road following his substitution in the defeat at home to Coventry City. He never played for the club again and actually left City in April.

But his Championship experience and leadership on the pitch could be something that The Seasiders look to buy into as they embark on a third campaign in the second tier of english football.

However, reports that we are interested are at early stages and a deal with Espanyol does seem more likely at this stage, as the Scot flies over to Spain next week.

Preston and Sheffield Wednesday have also been mentioned as possible destinations for the former Celtic man.
