The News of the World is today reporting that Blackpool are set to make a £1 million bid for Bournemouth striker Brett Pitman as ‘Pool manager Ian Holloway becomes increasingly desperate to strengthen his forward options and squad in general.

Ollie is known to be a long term admirer of the free scoring young Cherry, and after a summer of total and abject frustration in the transfer market this summer, could be set to make a move for the player.

Pitman would certainly fit into Ollie’s plan of signing young players, polishing them up and selling them on, but questions will be raised over whether he is good enough for the Premier League.

Meanwhile, Barry Bannan has stated that he believes his loan at Blackpool last season will help him make an impact on the Aston Villa first team this coming season.

Speaking to Villa’s official website, he said:

‘Last pre-season was quite poor from me. I had my chances and I didn’t really take them. I think I did alright against Walsall and Bohemians this time though.

‘There are a lot of games coming up this year, though, with the Europa League so hopefully I will get a chance.

‘I had a good run at Blackpool and was starting every game and then I broke my toe and was out for six weeks.

‘I came back and they went on an incredible run. It was hard to get back in the team then but I was still getting 20-30 minutes.

‘I was in the reserves here and I wasn’t getting on the first team bench so to go to Blackpool and play games was brilliant for my education.’

‘Pool manager Ian Holloway is still said to be keen to bring Bannan back to the club, but any potential deal could be scuppered by James Milner’s expected departure from the club.
