Simon Grayson’s Blackpool side came away from Vicarage Road with a fantastic point today.

Watford – early pace setters in the league – scored first just before half time when Adam Johnson hit home a freekick from 25 yards.

The Seasiders, whom lined up 4-5-1, gave Aidy Boothroyd’s side glorious chances as Tommy Smith and Jay DeMerit could have scored and given the London club all three points.

As it is, there were a whole host of draws this afternoon, and we haven’t moved too far down the table, so that point can be seen as a very well earned one and with ourselves so close to the playoffs, a win on Tuesday could see us go 4th.

Watford manager Adrian Boothroyd:
‘It appeared that we thought that because we were top of the league we would turn up and win and that is not the case.
‘Blackpool are in the middle of an injury crisis, played for 120 minutes in the cup in midweek, travelled down 200 miles on a Friday, braved the M6 traffic and even had a flat tyre on the way and we should have penalised them.

‘Even if we’d taken our chances it would have brushed a few things under the carpet. Blackpool came to be solid and they were but we weren’t good enough to break them down.’


Blackpool boss Simon Grayson:
‘It feels like a win. To come here and get a point is a massive achievement for us.
‘We were down to 16 fit players today and when you come to places like Watford you can’t be too open and have to contain the opposition and use the ball well and I thought we did that well.

‘But we’ve battered Wolves, battered Sheffield United and now got a point here when they’ve got a better squad then they had in the Premier League so it gives us massive confidence.’
