A few weeks ago Joe Lewis looked like he could be left in limbo as the former Peterborough ‘keeper was a player we ‘tried to send back’ to Cardiff, who loaned him to us for the season.

This didn’t happen, for whatever reason, with Lee Clark insisting that that this was purely a ‘tactical’ move with some reports claiming that we were looking to avoid a £40,000 loan fee to Cardiff if he made 30 appearances for us?

Had it not been for Lewis though, now back in the fold, the four-nil mauling at Brentford would have been far worse with him making plenty of saves as Brentford dominated the game with a staggering amount of possession and over 40 attempts at goal!

Clark continues to main that he was dropped in order to regain his form and give Elliott Parish a game but has told the Blackpool Gazette that he’s impressed with how Lewis has reacted to being dropped.

‘Every player, no matter what level, gets left out from time to time. At the time I felt Joe had not produced the levels we know he can.

‘We have a number two here who I believe in (Elliot Parish), so I gave him a chance.

‘Joe used the time out of the team properly and got himself back in the side. He’s come back in outstanding form.’

Having lost Charles Dunne it was known that ‘ he would be busy in the second half’ but he was pleased with how he ‘stood up to Brentford very well’ and was branded ‘outstanding.’

We’ve been absolutely battered several times this season, this was another thrashing of course, but thanks to Lewis didn’t end up another battering at least!
