Relegation Rivals this weekend

As Pool lock horns with Sheffield Wednesday in the ‘six-pointer’ of all six pointers, let’s take a look at the other fixtures at the bottom of the Championship.

Colchester v Coventry (21st 49 points)

Barnsley (17th 52 points) v Leicester (22nd 48 points)

Southampton (19th 50 points) v Burnley

Norwich (16th 52 points) v West Brom

I chose to include Norwich in the fixture round-up because the Canaries are not safe yet and face in-form West Brom tomorrow. A win for Pool and anything less for Norwich would see the Seasiders go above Glenn Roeder’s side in the table.

More crucially Leicester travel to Barnsley. The Foxes are desperate for the points while the Tykes aren’t safe yet either after the defeat to Hull in midweek. But a Barnsley win here would be great from a Pool perspective.

Elsewhere, let’s hope the Clarets do us all a big favour at Saint Mary’s. Also, Scott Vernon could give Pool a lift by firing Colchester to victory over Coventry.

However I would suggest that both Southampton and Coventry should win tomorrow meaning a win for Pool is imperative.

All we can do is concentrate on the biggest game at Bloomfield Road since the Play Off Semi final last May. A win for Pool coupled with a Leicester defeat would almost certainly guarantee safety for Simon Grayson’s side.

One thing is for sure, we don’t want to have to go into the final day needing points for survival. My, and most Pool fans’ hearts simply would not be able to take that!
