With Blackpool only conceding two goals so far across the pre season game portion of the build ups, young defender Clark Robertson has said he’s been delighted with he progress the new group of players are making.
On a personal front, with the 21 year old starting all of the games we have played so far, he’s delighted to be establishing himself in the first team following his summer arrival from Scottish side Aberdeen.
Speaking to the Official Site he explained that it had been interesting having been paired with Tom Aldred, Lloyd Jones and Charles Dunne so far, but he’s enjoying it.
‘Whoever I play with we`ve got a good partnership at the back, whoever the back four is. I`m enjoying it. As a back five I think we look really solid and hard to break down. Saturday we got a good 90 minutes under our belts and with a clean sheet you can`t ask for more than that in a defensive performance.’
He went on to say that it wasn’t just defensive play he’d been impressed with, as he feels we are showing a real growing threat up front as well.
‘I thought going forward we looked a real threat. We could have scored a couple more goals, Mark Cullen had a good chance, so all in all it was a good workout for us.’
With Robertson being one of many newbies at the club following the arrival of new manager Neil McDonald, he also went on to talk about how good the short training camp away had been for team bonding as obviously that figured in a lot of the activities the gaffer had set up for the week in Scotland.
‘We`ve worked on a lot of things on the training field, both defensively and attacking. I think there`s been a real bond and togetherness, which bodes well for the season. There`s so many new boys coming in, everyone is in the same position and it`s easy to gel. It was good to be back up in Scotland for a week and it was nice to play with a few of my old teammates from Aberdeen.’
Have to hope that transpires into the season itself now when it kicks off in only a few short weeks time.
