The Seasiders take on Conference National side Rushden & Diamonds this evening in the South West Challenge Cup, minus Shaun Barker, who today signed for Derby County.

Ian Holloway used all ten substitutes in the 5-0 win over Barnstaple Town on Monday and is likely to do the same tonight as he continues to build the Blackpool squad’s fitness ahead of the new season.

Rushden though are determined to win Group D and progress in the tournament.

Assistant manager Michael Stone told
www.thediamondsfc.com:

‘We’re in a group of three with the top team qualifying for the semi-finals, so we’ll be doing everything we can to make sure that is us.

‘We’ll be completely competitive. We’ve got Blackpool and Barnstaple Town, two contrasting games and they’ll both be difficult. We’ve always said it’s a chance for us to get away and get to know each other a bit more, but more importantly stepping it up again and making sure that we’re developing.

‘We’ll treat the tournament competitively, we’re looking to progress further and get those extra games at the weekend.’

If the Seasiders win they will guarantee their place in Saturday’s semi-final at Marshford, Appledore, against the winner of Group B.

Just scoring a goal would guarantee Blackpool at least two points, knocking Barnstaple Town out of the tournament.

Kick-off is 8:00pm at Marlborough Park, Ilfracombe.

The official site today confirmed that a couple of new triallists will play in tonights game.
