Seasiders Linked To McCourt

The Blackpool Gazette are today linking the Tangerines with a move for Celtic and Northern Ireland winger Patrick McCourt.

26 year old McCourt moved to the Old Firm in the summer of 2008 after re-establishing his career in Ireland following his surprise release from Rochdale.

However, he has failed to establish himself in his eighteen months at the club, making less then twenty appearances, and now the Seasiders could be set to pounce.

McCourt is regarded as a talented right winger and appears to have moved up Ian Holloway’s list of targets with interest in Barnet’s Albert Adomah rumoured to have cooled following his less than impressive displays so far this term.

The Gazette mention that wages could be an issue, but I severely doubt that given that McCourt is only a squad member at Parkhead and signed for the Bhoys after spells at Rochdale, Shamrock Rovers and Derry City, who would have hardly been paying him top whack.

Could Ian Holloway be the man to get the best out of McCourt, a player who many feel was shabbily treated by Paul Simpson at Rochdale and has done well to rebuild his career since?

Meanwhile, in other transfer news, the Seasiders are being heavily linked with a move for 23 year old Hartlepool midfielder Ritchie Jones.

Jones has caught the eye since signing for the League One club after his release from Manchester United 18 months ago, and Holloway is rumoured to have a central midfielder high on his list of priorities during this transfer window.

However, the Seasdiders have denied any interest in Accrington striker Michael Symes with media reports suggesting that both Ian Holloway and Nigel Clough were tracking the player who has scored thirteen times this season.
