Seasiders Poll: Tickets

Over the past fortnight we’ve been asking you all whether you think the ticketing prices at Wolves are acceptable. Here are the results…

It’s a new division, and new ticketing prices, and I’m afraid as you progress upwards, so does the match day expense! At Wembley we saw over-priced tickets, and merchandise – and the playoff final was the first time I’d never bought anything from the ground, be it at Cardiff or Wembley.

The unbelievably expensive Premier League has now over taken all other leagues in the world with regards to profit. Almost anything (providing it has a famous face on it) is available in club shops for fans to purchase and £5 here and £10 there means the merchandise side of a football club is a goldmine; probably one of the main contributing factors as to why Sheffield United felt so aggrieved over their relegation last season.

15% of our voters said that £27 to watch Blackpool v Wolves is good value. I’d assume this will be as expensive as anywhere in The Championship – and a five pound increase on Leicester City`s price from the other week – although both clubs are of similar stature. Just think though, if we’d beaten Norwich last year in the FA Cup, the supporters making the trip down to Chelsea in the 5th round would have shelled out a whopping £50! This fact alone typifies what is wrong in English football, as fans are getting priced out of watching top flight football. However, in turn that has seen an increase in The Football League`s attendances in recent years.

31% of ‘Pool fans stated that the price was too expensive but that they’ll live with it and shall be making the trip to Wolves tomorrow. Of course, clubs can get away with charging stupid money for tickets because there are always going to be fans that travel to games regardless of price.

The winner with over half the vote – 54% – was the ‘shocking price, I won’t be going’ camp. Hypothetically, if this percentage stood for the actual normal away Seasiders support, we`d only be taking around 1000 to Molineux tomorrow. How much money would Wolves stand to lose from the stay-aways? Quite a lot I should think!

What summed up English Football for me was the 2007 FA Cup final; the supposed showpiece of the beautiful game. Chelsea and Manchester United were allocated just 20,000 tickets. That doesn’t add up. Chelsea are watched by around 40,000 home fans every week and United 70,000. How much does Wembley hold? 90,000? Where did the remaining 50,000 tickets go? To ‘friends’ of sponsors. As Mr Roy Keane would say – the prawn sandwich brigade.

Money talks in football, not just within the clubs, but from the fans upwards. The typical man who loves football is not needed in the game anymore; it’s the men in straight jackets who are wanted. It’s the sorry state that our game is in and sadly, I can`t see it changing?

This week we ask:
Would you let Shaun Barker join Leeds United?
-No, not at any price.
-Unless a huge offer came in, no.
-For a small fee, yes.
-Yes.
