Seasiders v Sunderland For Welbeck

The Sunderland Echo have reported that Blackpool and Sunderland will scrap it out to sign Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck on loan.

Welbeck has been linked to the Seasiders consistently throughout the summer, but it is believed that Sunderland are in pole position to sign the player largely because of Steve Bruce’s links to Sir Alex Ferguson.

However, the Echo reports that the Seasiders have made a late move for the player and hold a potential trump card – guarenteed first team football, whilst Sunderland have four strikers to choose between at present.

Sir Alex Ferguson recently stated that he wanted Welbeck to go out on loan to a Premier League side and play first team football regularly, so it will be interesting to see if he sticks to that or if he helps out his old mate Bruce (as well as appeasing his own son of course!).

Meanwhile, ‘Pool manager Ian Holloway has defended the club’s ‘tactics’ in this summer’s transfer window.

Ollie said:

‘Both the chairman and myself are very straightforward about what we want and how we’re going to do it and I agree with him how we’re doing it.

‘Let’s see what happens. I want the right people and I have to make the right decisions.

‘I want the right people to work with, I don’t care where they come from or whatever division they come from and I don’t want anyone to judge them yet. I want to polish them up and give them a half-decent career.

‘What I want to do is get them going again and add some quality people and quality players to what we’ve got.’

Ollie now has less than two weeks to add players to his squad before the new season gets under way.
