Season Over? … Give me a break

It’s the business end of the season and the promotion race is hotting up, and with games in hand on all the teams above us, Pool are STILL well placed for a top 6 finish. But try telling that to some fans.

There were moans and groans against Brentford (quite rightly so), and yet more rumblings on Saturday with some suggesting that the dream is over for another year.

Don’t be ridiculous! Clearly our recent run of results is concerning (back to back home defeats was not what was needed at this time), but there are still 16 more cup finals to be played, and win half of those and the play – offs must surely beckon.

However, for some fans we have already blown it. How they can say this when we have 3 games in hand on teams like Tranmere I don’t know. The Tangerine Army have been unbelieveable this season – home and away the atmosphere has been electric, and so now is not the time to waver in our support of the mighty. Now more than ever do we need to support Larry and the boys as the schedule gets more demanding week by week.

If we can make it through the final 3 games in February with a few more points in the bag, we can look forward to March where, arguably, we have some very winnable games (touch wood). There’s the two remaining games in hand (Bournemouth and Rotherham) teams who are scrapping for survival which will be tough but should be won. Amongst those games are trips to Gillingham, Yeovil and Bradford, as well as home games with Brighton and Crewe. Dare I say it, that we could and even should be back in the play – off positions entering April?

We still have the chance to make this the best season for years, and so any negativity should be prohibited from Bloomfield Road! Whatever happens between now and May at least we haven’t had to endure dire and clueless ‘football’ trying desperately to avoid the drop. At least attendances are creeping up to an acceptable mark (average is around 6,600). And at least we have a team we can all be proud of. The time is now Pool, let’s kick on, let’s get promotion!

I fully admit to being a pessemistic git. And know I should be full of the joys of spring about the unbelievable change in our fortunes from last season to where we are now. But I also believe that had it not been for certain managerial appointments (cough hendry) we may already be here. And due to certain strategies of larry i’ve seen put into place I just hope that i’m just blind to his genius. Your are completely right, we have a team to be proud of. But time will tell if belokon cash can make a distinctley average manager the biz. Sorry I know its not what people wanna here, but being the only seasider for miles I have to put in my 2p somewhere.
