Sheffield Wednesday’s former Carlisle striker, who enjoyed a successful spell with Coventry this season, Gary Madine has been brought in on loan so he could face Middlesbrough tonight.

The official website, this lunchtime, confirmed that the striker has come to Bloomfield in a loan capacity until the end of the season, at which time I understand his contract with Sheffield Wednesday expires – so he’s literally playing for his future….

Lee Clark said he was looking to move into the emergency loan window when this reopened and he’s wasted little time and as much as Madine enjoyed his time with Coventry in league 1 when the chance to play for us in the Championship came up he said he couldn’t turn this down.

‘As soon as I got the phone call and I heard Lee Clark was interested, I couldn’t say no really to my chance to play in The Championship again.

‘I’ve been out on loan in League One and as every professional footballer will say, you play at the highest level you can.’

We needs goals, and lots of them – if the 24-year-old can bring them or not remains to be seen but he could be given his first chance to do so tonight as he’s set to be in the squad that faces the promotion chasers….
