Blackpool loanee has been released by his parent club Sheffield Wednesday.

The right winger, who played five times in tangerine at the end of the season, ends a three year spell with the Yorkshire club after signing from MK Dons in 2006.

After initially making a huge impact at Hillsborough, Small fell away this season especially, but shouldn’t find it too difficult to locate a new club for himself.

Whether that club is Blackpool or not is up for debate. The midfielder again made an impact to begin with for The Seasiders, scoring the winner on debut at Barnsley, but found live tough from then on.

His record stands at a goal every five league starts, which isn’t bad for a right winger, and he should be plying his trade in The Championship – or at least the top end of League One – next campaign.

He never made a big impact at Wednesday and was far too injury prone.

Was never going to be. I think he might end up back at MK Dons.

tremendous on the ball, great speed, occasionally a great finish but one of the worse passers of the ball I’ve ever seen.
