Now, I’ve seen some rumours in my time, but one this morning nearly made me choke on my Weetabix, more so than the one earlier this week about the East Stand that seemed to have everyone going for an afternoon!
The rumour in question saw Nicky Butt being linked with Blackpool, and what’s worse is that it came from a reputable source!
Sky Sports have stated that the Seasiders are considering a move for the veteran midfielder as he currently thinks about postponing his retirement from the game.
The 35 year old exited Newcastle at the end of last season on a free transfer, and was set to go into coaching – could the Seasiders have offered him a player/coach deal?!
Ipswich and Preston have also been linked with the player, Ipswich for obvious reasons, Preston because he’s rubbish.
Why have the Seasiders been linked you ask? Well, according to Sky, it’s because of his Premier League experience. With Butt set to decide on his future soon, let’s hope that he doesn’t have another Premier League experience…
Meanwhile, the Seasiders have also been linked with a move for Aston Villa midfielder Steve Sidwell.
Leaving aside that his hair colour would clash with our kit though, Fulham and West Ham lead the chase for the 27 year old, with us and Bolton bringing up the rear, according to the News of the World.
Finally, the News of the World report that Ian Holloway is set to sign a new three year contract with the Seasiders worth around £500,000 a year.
