Blackpool’s League 2 season got underway with a win against Exeter at Bloomfield Road on Saturday.
A first match at this level since 2001, following successive relegations, ended with Blackpool beating Exeter two-nil in Gary Bowyer’s first match in charge.
One of the debutants was Kyle Vassell with him putting Blackpool into a first half lead.
The woodwork twice denied Exeter an equaliser with Sam Slocombe making a few saves too before Troy Brown deflected Brad Potts’ cross into his own net to seal the points early in the second half.

The 2017-16 season is now underway….
Life back in the Football League for Grimsby started with a two-nil win over Morecambe at Blundell Park with Cheltenham’s own return to League 2 seeing them collect a point (one-one) from a draw against Leyton Orient at Whaddon Road.
Relegation meant Doncaster, Blackpool, Colchester and Crewe all returned to League 2 this season.
Doncaster started with a five-goal thriller at Accrington but it was Stanley who went away with the points after a three-two win at the Crown Ground. Colchester had to be content with a point from one-one draw at Hartlepool.
There was a winning start (two-nil) for Gary Bowyer at Blackpool though with him leading Pools to a win at Bloomfield Road with Crewe’s return to this level seeing the Railwaymen go away from Stevenage with a two-one win.
Plymouth were beaten play-off finalist last season but they got off to a losing start with Luton going away from Home Park with a three-nil win! Portsmouth (beaten by Argyle in the play-off semi-finals last season) had to settle for a point against Carlisle at Fratton Park. Pompey, again a strong favourite for the title let alone promotion, were held to a nil-nil draw.
Another five-goal thriller saw Mansfield edge out Newport three-two at Rodney Parade.
