The demise of Danny

Blackpool’s longest serving player is facing his most testing time at Bloomfield Road as he tries to battle his way back into Simon Grayson’s first team plans. His red card in the midweek reserve defeat against Man City will have done little to impress the watching boss.

Coid has clocked up almost 250 appearances for the club, spanning over 7 years at the seaside. Mr. Versatile has suffered countless injury problems over the years, one reason why he has never truly fulfilled his undoubted potential. Also, Coid’s rare gift of being adept at playing in a number of different positions has been to the detriment of his progress. Steve McMahon, Colin Hendry, Simon Grayson, they have all switched Danny all over the park for the good of the team.

Coidy turns 26 in October, meaning he is certainly no longer one of the younger members of Larry’s squad. His failure thus far to force his way into the first team this season is worrying for the player, particularly given his talent. The red card he picked up in midweek was not his first for the reserves. Last year Coid faced a similar situation after being sent off for the reserves against Wrexham. Now, it appears his chances of a return to the first team in the near future look slim.

I, along with thousands of other Pool fans, am a massive Danny Coid fan. The likeable scouser is a tremendously gifted footballer, possessing a great work ethic and a good range of passing. I just hope that I have not seen the last of Coidy in a Tangerine shirt.
