The Promo Files

So, will The Seasiders make it to the playoffs this year? After all the hype surrounding this season, Simon Grayson`s men find themselves very handily placed in 6th position with ten games remaining: one of which being a game in hand against Rotherham United.

Looking at the table, it now looks destined that Scunthorpe will finish in the top two and gain automatic promotion with any one of four joining them. Oldham, Forest, Brizzle City and Yeovil all have fantastic opportunities to acquire Championship status next year.

Looking at Blackpool`s run in until a possible fateful day in Swansea on the last day; we`ve only got to play Tranmere, Yeovil and Scunny in the top half. For me it`s a pity we aren`t playing more to be honest, as there`s nothing better than taking points off those around you at this stage as it`s like six points. Having said that, playing mid table teams now isn`t bad either as they don`t have anything to play for, and could be any easy three points – note the ‘could` in the sentence! The main worries are the relegation candidates as they`re full of adrenalin and passion and wanting their bonuses for staying up and new contracts!

What happened over the weekend with the promotion hunting teams?

Results from Saturday and Sunday:

Oldham 4-0 Doncaster
Blackpool 0-0 Brighton
Bristol City 1-0 Brentford
Cheltenham 1-2 Yeovil
Millwall 2-0 Carlisle
Scunthorpe 1-1 Nottm Forest
Tranmere 0-2 Swansea

Any team right down to Port Vale in 12th could realistically make the playoffs with Vale being 6 points behind us. They won 5-1 away at Rotherham United (who said playing the relegation threatened teams was difficult? Oh?me!) but it`ll take a few more victories for me to really take note of them as playoff challengers, but it`s still a possibility that they will upset the pack.

It`ll be interesting to see if Oldham have overcome their recent bad patch, with the 4-0 win against Donny they look to be coming back into form just at the right time.

The Table

1 Scunthorpe 37 74
2 Bristol City 36 68
3 Yeovil 37 64
4 Nottm Forest 37 64
5 Oldham 37 62
6 Blackpool 36 56
7 Tranmere 37 56
8 Swansea 37 55
9 Doncaster 37 54
10 Carlisle 37 52
11 Millwall 36 51

A Prediction
My predictions are notoriously bad (anyone that read the fanzine in August will know that!) but I`ll have a go anyway.

1. Scunthorpe
2. Forest
3. Yeovil
4. Bristol City
5. Oldham
6. Swansea
7. Blackpool
8. Millwall

I can see The Seasiders ruining their chances and rebuilding for next year unfortunately with Scunny and Forest going up automatically.

Hopefully I`ll be proved wrong, but I don`t think we as a squad are strong enough in all honesty.

We are good but not good enough for promotion. To be honest I dont think we will make the play offs. I hope we do though. I think we need another year of rebuilding. that includes our manager gaining experiance.

Sixth after 36 games is a fantastic performance given our start. We have as good a chance as the likes of Swansea, Oldham and Tranmere of reaching the play-offs.
