Transfer Window Targets

One week into the new season, performances and results have been excellent, especially considering our recent struggles in early season.

The squad looks relatively strong, that is of course when everyone is fit. An injury to Wes or a suspension for Barker here and there and all of a sudden things would look very different.

Money is there to spend, without question. Larry has already had two substantial bids for Andy Wilkinson rejected. A third and possibly final bid is believed to be on the table for Stoke to consider. I am sure most Pool fans will be desperate for it to be accepted. Wilkinson, along with his Stoke counter part Dickinson, made a massive impression on the Pool faithful whlist on loan last season.

A string of solid, committed and powerful displays for Pool in League One last term clearly persuaded Larry to go in for the youngster. Wilkinson would provide cover right across the back four. I for one certainly hope to see him back in a Tangerine shirt soon.

With news of Belgian trialist Pieter Collen, also a defender, checking in for training, Grayson clearly believes that he needs to improve his defensive options. But should we be looking to strengthen elsewhere? At the other end of the pitch we have four good strikers. However, our failure thus far to score more than once in a game this season perhaps will encourage Simon to dip into the transfer market for another striker. It may be that we see a centre forward arrive on loan to give Grayson another option up front.

Defensive cover and another striker would be on my shopping list if I were the gaffer. I believe that we have strength in depth in the midfield areas. It will be intriguing to see what additions Larry may make in the next week or so to help the Seasiders’ continue their superb start to the season.
