According to national media reports today, Manchester United could be set to enter the race to sign Blackpool captain Charlie Adam.

The Scottish international midfielder has been the subject of much transfer speculation this month, and United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is known to be a fan of the player, with reports suggesting that he could well have been earmarked to replace Paul Scholes, who it is reported is considering retiring at the end of the season.

Of course this is all just ‘ifs, buts and maybes’ at the moment, but United’s reported interest could well force Liverpool’s hand.

The Merseyside club have made a string of bids for Adam, but all of them have fallen short of Blackpool’s valuation of the player. Indeed, despite their skipper’s transfer request, the Seasiders are hopeful of retaining his services until the summer.

Will Liverpool now raise their offer for Blackpool’s talisman? Or will their focus tomorrow (transfer deadline day) be purely centred on wantaway striker Fernando Torres?

Tomorrow is expected to be hectic whatever happens up and down the country, and the Seasiders are hopeful of securing a new face or two before the window slams shut until the summer.

And as always, the only place to be for all the news and views as they happen is Vital.
