The next test of Plymouth’s unbeaten run, which has seen the Pilgrims to a healthy lead at the top of the table and from those in the play-off places will come at Crewe, at Gresty Road the Railwaymen will be looking to prove they’ve still promotion candidates.

Carlisle remain the only unbeaten side in League 2, in fact (I would think) the Football League, they’ll aim to keep it that way against bottom of the table Newport with Leyton Orient just above them when they go to Colchester.

After an FA Cup win at Bloomfield Road the hopes are for Blackpool to make it two in a row when Notts County, pushing for a play-off berth, visit.

Being back at St James Park probably isn’t something Exeter will be happy with as their home form has been poor, automatic promotion chasing Doncaster visit on Saturday with the Grecians looking for a win that could act as a springboard for more?

An FA Cup win was secured at Victoria Park but this hasn’t been favourable for Hartlepool in the league, Cheltenham are the latest visitors with Craig Hignett looking for all three-points after the midweek home EFL Trophy defeat at home!

Promotion rivals, at least for a play-off place at least, are Luton and Accrington with them clashing at Kenilworth Road with Portsmouth’s own promotion bid ‘back on track’ with a win at Cambridge (before the FA Cup exit) with a match against Mansfield at Fratton Park one Pompey will look for the points from again to push towards an automatic promotion place again.

Wycombe were the side to end Pompey’s FA Cup involvement at the first hurdle, the Chairboys will hope this can spark a run of league form with Morecambe the visitors to Adams Park this weekend.

We can say it goes without saying the expectation; most definitely the hope at least, will be for a positive result.

But will this happen? We’ll find out soon enough!
