The latest challenge for leaders Plymouth, who are opening a decent lead at the top, will come from Colchester with the U’s going to Home Park in a match they’ll aim to win as they look to push closer toward a play-off position, the least anticipated of them you would think.
Bottom side Newport really are being cut adrift, they’ll head to promotion chasing Accrington looking for a first win under Graham Westley.
A win, coupled with an Exeter defeat, helped Barnet out of the bottom two last time round with the Bees aiming to keep that the case but with Hartlepool’s away form much better than the home Pools will look to get back on track after a disappointing home defeat.
Portsmouth also suffered a disappointing defeat when the two-one loss at Fratton Park against Notts County saw Pompey drop five-points off the top three but that win saw the Magpies into the play-offs – they’ll take on promotion rivals Luton at Meadow Lane – with Paul Cook looking for a reaction when Pompey go to Cambridge.
The Carlisle unbeaten league start will end sooner or later, they’ll not want this to be at Brunton Park when Crawley visit with Blackpool also on their travels on Saturday. An impressive win against Doncaster at Bloomfield Road is something Pools will look to follow up with another positive results at Cheltenham.
Doncaster on the other hand will look to react when back at the Keepmoat when Wycombe, who have disappointed this season, visit.
Exeter will stay in the bottom two if they lose, even a win at Morecambe might not take the Grecians out of relegation trouble but as they’ve done (pretty) well away from home they’ll hope for the same at the Globe Arena.
We can say it goes without saying the expectation; most definitely the hope at least, will be for a positive result.
But will this happen? We’ll find out soon enough!
