With the Premier League and Championship sides coming into the competition in the New Year these second round ties are games those involved will be especially keen to win, certainly those from non-league due to the potentially riches involved.
Macclesfield are the first of those sides looking to cause and upset when they play host to League 1 side Oxford on Friday, in a game that would have been a regular type of game in the Football League not too long ago.
Blackpool, Luton and Cheltenham will all come up against non-league opposition when facing Brackley Town, Solihull Moors and Sutton United, respectively. All three of these League 2 sides would be expected to advance, in particular Pools and the Hatters due to the fact they have home advantage but this is the FA Cup after all!
An interesting tie will see Karl Robinson reunited with his former club MK Dons having parted company with them recently. He was appointed as Charlton boss last with his Addicks side welcoming their League 1 rivals to the Valley on Saturday.
Sunday will see a plethora of ties as is he norm these days, a number of those involving sides seeking giant killing upsets.
The standout ties see Curzon Ashton looking to upset promotion-chasing League 1 AFC Wimbledon with Bristol Rovers aiming to avoid an early exit against visiting Barrow. Stourbridge have a home game against Northampton and as they say Accrington’s trip to Woking is another potential banana skin.
It goes without saying the expectation; most definitely the hope at least, will be for a positive result. But will this happen? We’ll find out soon enough.
