Newport have the chance to move out of the relegation zone if they can win on Friday. However, in order to do this the Exiles will have to beat League 2 leaders Doncaster – unbeaten in nine – at Rodney Parade to achieve this.
A first win in four from Carlisle – they had drawn the previous three – kept the Cumbrians well placed for automatic promotion. Blackpool have also favoured draws recently as five of the last six – the other was lost – have ended in draws ahead of this meeting at Brunton Park.
Colchester and Barnet meet at the Weston Homes Community Stadium four points adrift of the top seven. Play-off hopes will be improved should we see a winner from this game.
Eight defeats in the last 10 has seen Crewe drop to within four points of the relegation zone. Grimsby head to Gresty Road with play-off ambitions and if the Mariners can claim a first win in three it would improve those chances.
Having failed to win in the last two Luton have lost ground on the top three but remain in a play-off place ahead of Crawley’s visit to Kenilworth Road. The midtable Red Devils have lost two of their last three.
Mansfield’s seven game unbeaten run – with the last three won – has seen the Stags move to within two points of the play-offs. Victory at Field Mill could move them into the top seven with Hartlepool looking to move away from potential relegation trouble. Pools are five points clear of the bottom two heading into the weekend.
An unbeaten run of five has taken Morecambe away from trouble with the 17th placed side now only four points behind Cambridge in 12th. The U’s have lost their last three to slip out of play-off contention.
Notts County and Cheltenham are both battling against relegation but meet at Meadow Lane outside of the relegation zone. The Magpies are just a place and a point above the bottom two so could drop back in but the Robins – unbeaten in three – are four points clear so will stay above the drop zone regardless.
Doncaster could extend their lead – on Friday – over 2nd place Plymouth so they’ll look to react or close the gap when Exeter visit Home Park. The Grecians’ nine wins from 10 – seven in a row – has taken them up to 4th and just four points off the top three.
Three defeats in the last four has seen Portsmouth drop to 7th and in danger of dropping out of the relegation zone. Accrington – beaten just once in the last five – visit Fratton Park looking to inflict more misery on former boss Paul Cook’s Pompey.
Stevenage look for a hat trick of wins that could yet give Boro hope of making the play-offs. However, Wycombe are the visitors and the 6th placed Chairboys have lost just once in the last 10.
Yeovil are sitting comfortably in midtable as they look to extend an unbeaten run to three. The Glovers have in fact lost only once in the last five. If Leyton Orient are to have a chance of moving out of the relegation zone then second bottom Orient will have to end a six game losing run with a victory at Huish Park.
It goes without saying the expectation; most definitely the hope at least, will be for a positive result. But will this happen? We’ll find out soon enough.
