As Doncaster are in early action on Saturday lunchtime Rovers will have the chance to lay down the early marker against Grimsby. If the home side win at the Keepmoat Stadium they’ll move to the top of the table until 5pm at least.
Current leaders – heading into the weekend – Plymouth will head to struggling Accrington looking to record a second straight win after ending a three game losing run to regain the lead last weekend.
Waiting for any slip up from Plymouth or Doncaster are Carlisle. They are at Brunton Park with play-off chasing Yeovil the visitors to the Cumbrians so this will be a tricky test.
Goal difference is all that keeps Barnet out of the top seven at the moment – a win against Stevenage at the Hive and the chances are the Bees will move into them. However, visitors Boro are only three points from the play-offs themselves.
Blackpool are presently the side that hold the fourth and final play-off place ahead of a meeting with promotion rivals Luton. Pools know they would move above the 5th placed Hatters with a win at Bloomfield Road.
A run of three wins in four – including three in a row – from Cambridge has seen them move to the verge of a top seven place. A win at the Abbey Stadium against visiting Crewe could potentially see them into a play-off spot.
Colchester and Notts County certainly aren’t having the seasons they would have wanted. The U’s are below midtable whereas County are just a few places and four points off a relegation place ahead of this game at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.
Four defeats in the last six has seen Crawley’s play-off bid falter but they have a chance to get back on track when hosting bottom-placed Newport, four points from safety.
Exeter bid to extend the five point gap they’ve put between themselves and the bottom two when they return to St James Park on Saturday – this hasn’t been a happy hunting ground for the home side though! They host a Mansfield side without a win in the last two.
A potential relegation battle will see Morecambe playing host to Cheltenham. The Shrimpers are five points clear in 18th at the moment but a win for the second-bottom Robins and they’ll close that gap – they could even move out of the relegation zone.
Having won at Grimsby last weekend 4th placed Portsmouth bid to close the five point gap between them and the top three. A Pompey win and dropped points from those above them would do that but they have to see off struggling Hartlepool first – Pools have lost six of their last eight including the a 5-0 thrashing last Saturday.
Wycombe could climb a place to 5th if they beat struggling Leyton Orient and other results go their way. The results needed to make this happen are unlikely but Orient know a defeat at Adams Park and they could drop back into the bottom two.
It goes without saying the expectation; most definitely the hope at least, will be for a positive result. But will this happen? We’ll find out soon enough.
