Plymouth, despite having suffered back-to-back defeat at Home Park, continue to lead the way in League 2 as they prepare go into the game at struggling Morecambe with a three point lead at the top, which could be lost if Argyle slip up again at the Globe Arena.
With the table so congested both Accrington and Yeovil know a win for either at the Crown Ground and they’ll get back into play-off contention, equally a defeat and relegation could draw closer. The Glovers are the closer to the top seven at this point and could even move into this depending on other results.
Barnet, having won at Plymouth in midweek, are just outside the play-off places with the Bees playing host to Notts County, who have slipped out of contention in recent weeks. Blackpool were in the play-offs before a midweek defeat so a win to, possibly, return to the top seven will be the aim at Bloomfield Road against Newport, the side at the bottom of the Football League.
The side just above Newport are Cheltenham with the second-bottom side heading to Cambridge. At the other end Carlisle are looking to close the gap on the leaders, this has been reduced to three points, with the second placed side welcoming a Mansfield side to Brunton Park. The Stags are now only a point behind the play-offs also following successive wins under new boss Steve Evans.
Midweek wins for Colchester and Crewe saw them move out of the relegation places and move into the play-off zone, respectively, with them meeting at the Weston Homes Community Stadium aiming to maintain such positions with Grimsby are another side looking to retain the position they occupy. The Mariners are in the top seven ahead of the game against Crawley, sitting fifth in fact.
As Doncaster didn’t have a game in midweek they didn’t have the chance to close the gap on Plymouth or Carlisle, they didn’t see either gain too much ground on them mind. Struggling Leyton Orient, just outside the bottom two, visit the Keepmoat Stadium on Saturday.
The Exeter away form could keep them in the Football League, they’ll have to improve at home though with Luton visiting St James Park aiming for a reaction to a midweek defeat against Portsmouth, which saw the two sides swap places.
Pompey will be looking to build on that Kenilworth Road win, in a week that’s seen four points from two away games so far, when Stevenage visit Fratton Park. A win could take Paul Cook’s side into the top three.
Both Wycombe and Hartlepool go into the meeting at Adams Park outside the top seven, the Chairboys just a point and a place off this with Pools four points adrift of the play-offs in 13th.
It goes without saying the expectation; most definitely the hope at least, will be for a positive result. But will this happen? We’ll find out soon enough.
Ahead of the game we’re looking for your views on what way you think it will go, which requires you to vote in the latest poll in one of the options you have been given.
However, don’t just look also have a say. We don’t just want your vote, which you can do to the right, we also want some thoughts and views ahead of the game as well so share these below.
