A lead was lost at Home Park by Plymouth late on but Argyle struck back in the last minute to deny Portsmouth a win over the leaders in an entertaining two-two draw in Devon, this saw Pompey dropped to fifth.
This left Doncaster and Carlisle with a chance to close the gap a little if they won, which they did! Donny did enough to see off Colchester one-nil at the Keepmoat Stadium with the Cumbrians remaining the only unbeaten side in League 2, seeing off rivals Hartlepool by the odd goal in five – a three-two win was secured despite finishing with 10-men against Pools.
Blackpool looked on for a morale boosting win at Accrington until two late goals from the home side saw Stanley come back from a goal-down to win two-one and leave Pools’ early season struggles continue.
Exeter went to Barnet knowing the decent away form gave them a chance of getting something at the Hive, which they did and more! A four-one win took the struggling Grecians out of the bottom two and above the Bees.
Only Newport are below Barnet now with new boss Graham Westley off to a losing start with the Exiles. A one-nil defeat at Yeovil leaves Newport someway from safety and already five-points adrift of the Bees.
Grimsby’s return to the Football League continues in impressive fashion with a one-nil win at Cambridge leaving the Mariners nicely in a play-off spot with this something Luton also hold with the Hatters adding to Leyton Orient’s problems, going away from Brisbane Road with a one-one draw.
