Plymouth had the Devon derby with Exeter as the early kick-off, and a chance to lay down a marker and consolidate top spot, which they did with a two-nil win at St James Park to retain top spot and extend the lead.

Coming into the weekend Portsmouth had won four in a row and were up to second but a one-nil defeat at the Crown Ground saw Paul Cook’s side lose that winning run at one of former clubs Accrington.

It’s early days but Morecambe remain in the mix with a two-one win at Cambridge with five-goals going in at Cheltenham with visitors Notts County collecting the points in a three-two win.

Luton lost for a second-match running and failed to score at Crawley with the home side running out two-nil winners with the same scoreline seeing Crewe win at Grimsby with a run of defeats ended by Yeovil after a one-nil win at Leyton Orient.
