Hoolahan originally made the 40-man preliminary squad over a month ago, however new ROI manager Giovanni Trapattoni has today whittled the competition down to just 28.

The Seasiders left winger – with speculation about his future in the North-West still lingering in the air – will join up with his international team-mates on May 15th, before heading to a training camp in Portugal.

Having made the cut, he could feature in the friendly ties against Columbia and Serbia in the final week in May (24th and 29th, respectively) after catching the eye of Trapattoni with his performances in Tangerine this season.

It isn’t the first time Wes has caught the eye of his international manager, however. In November last year, he was called up to the Ireland ‘B’ team to face Scotland’s ‘B’ team – a match which ended up in a 1-1 stalemate – after his skillful displays in both The Championship and League One, the season before.

Best of luck to Wes as he attempts to impose himself on the International scene.

  • Apparently we (QPR) have been after him, he looks a quality player from what I’ve seen and we’re dying for a left-winger!

  • Norwich have also been linked, Roeder likes him alot and may come in for him after letting Huckerby go.

  • You’ll have to join the list of teams after him then. Palace, Ipswich, Norwich, now QPR.
Would be a miracle if he’s here come the start of the new season, but stranger things have happened, I guess. Still resigned to the fact that we’re going to lose him, however.
