One of the few highlights of this season has been the emergence into the first-team at Blackpool of Henry Cameron hasn’t it? He scored his first goal for us in professional football at Ipswich on Saturday.

If thing had been different with us as a club this season there’s every chance that Cameron wouldn’t have made it into the first-team? They haven’t and he did and is now taking his chance, although he’s told the Blackpool Gazette that he had been considering his own future in the game anyway….

He had, it seems, ‘fallen out of love’ with the game but having got into the squad for the FA Cup tie with Aston Villa things have ‘taken off’ and he hasn’t looked back, bar the spell he had out due to injury, with him happy with the way it’s panned out in the end.

‘At the start of the season my head was down and at one point I wanted to quit football but I was in the squad for the FA Cup tie at Aston Villa in the New Year and since then things have just taken off.

‘I thought I should have been doing better than I was and I just felt I didn’t want to do this for a living.

‘I had to pick myself back up and play well for the youth team, and that’s given me a chance with the first team.

‘Things have changed quickly and I’m delighted with the way it’s going.’

Speaking about the goal itself, he said it was ‘a dream come true’ not that he knew what to do to celebrate it!

‘I didn’t know what to do when I scored. It was crazy.

‘It’s all just a blur. Gary Madine did well to get the ball across and I just gambled on it. The first thing I did was say thanks to Gary.’

Cameron, having been out for six-weeks and missed seven-matches due to his ankle injury, had only just returned to training on Thursday and wasn’t expecting to start, if he even made the squad.

The fact that he did tends to suggest that he’s very much a part of the first-team plans going into next season with the 17-year-old finishing by saying that his aims for what’s left of this season are to ‘get a few good results’ and then he aims for himself, and us as a club to, ‘push on for next season.’

Lets hope this can be the case….
