The man they call the ‘wolf’ played under Steve McMahon at Bloomfield Road. After initially playing on loan for Pool, Macca splashed the cash for the Villa striker, signing him for £50,000 in 2001.

In the 2001/2002 season, Pool’s first back in the old Division Two, Walker contributed 8 goals in 16 starts and 5 substitute appearances. Not a bad record indeed. Walker formed a good partnership with John Murphy, providing Pool with a steady supply of goals.

Successful loan moves to Wycombe and Northampton followed, before Bristol Rovers came calling. Walker appears to have flourished at the Memorial stadium. Now into his fourth season with the Pirates, Walker has plundered 54 goals. In Rovers’ promotion season last term he bagged 21 goals in all competitions, including one at Wembley in the Play Off Final triumph against Shrewsbury. Back in League One this year, the ‘wolf’ has managed just the one goal so far in Rovers’ impressive start which sees them in ninth place in the league.

Now up to the thirty mark, Walker will want to make the most of the rest of his career, which has seen him become a very useful lower league striker. Whilst Walker has not been blessed with great pace, he is an excellent finisher, particularly from the penalty spot.

All the best Richard in the rest of your career!

Coming up next week we take you back to the shiny old head of Wayne Gill!
