Blackpool’s King – Kaspars

It wasn’t the best performance by a long stretch, but The Seasiders overcame an average Scunthorpe United side to record a first victory in ten as Kaspars Gorkss headed home the winner on 73 minutes on the clock.

Simon Grayson’s men, having signed Middlesborough Right-Back Tony McMahon on loan for a month on Friday, lined up as follows:

Referee Andy Hall tried his best to ruin a prosperous game of Football between two attacking and “good” footballing teams, but as The Seasiders continued to create chances, which a confident Keigan Parker would have buried, but was thwarted by Joe Murphy – the goalkeeper who once became irate at Parker in his Walsall days for the Scot diving to win a penalty that ultimately kept the ‘Pool up and sent Walsall down.

Blackpool had a goal disallowed also, for what looked like handball. Keigan Parker was again involved as he bypassed Kelly Youga with ease before cutting the ball back to on rushing Claus Jorgensen. The Great Dane bundled the ball home and was off celebrating before referee Hall spotted that his linesman was signalling no goal, and thus ruled it out.

I for one was impressed with Jorgensen today. Ok, so he didn’t have his best game, but his attacking instincts are far greater than Fox’s, and we looked more dangerous when breaking from the middle of the park, which is non existent when Claus doesn’t play.

We created more chances, with Gorkss going close with a half volley from 18 yards.

The ‘Pool came out with renewed vigour, but didn’t really create anymore clear cut chances. That was until the 73rd minute when a corner wasn’t cleared properly and the big Latvian Gorkss pounced to head his first league goal this season to steal the points in a fairly lacklustre second half.

MOM: Gorkss. Man mountain at the back!

Testament to Larry’s men was that United didn’t have a chance after that, and we held on for the points, as our knobber friends were losing 3-0 away at Hull City!
