Carling Cup – Meaningless?

Well, whoever said that The Carling Cup was meaningless? Barnsely beat Blackpool in a fantastic, end to end game, eventually on penalties after the best game of football I’ve seen in a very long time.

Scott Vernon equalised twice for The Seasiders, one in normal time, the other in the last minute of extra time to cancel out The Tykes’ goalscorers Robbie Williams (from the spot) and Martin Devaney. Tommy Wright also missed a second half penalty just before Williams scored
his in a bizarre couple of minutes.

The crowd were absolutely superb all night long, and they urged The Pool on, but it wasn’t enough in the penalty shoot out.

Blackpool took the first penatly at the Kop End

Vernon scored
McIndoe scored

Jackson missed
Devaney scored

Southern scored
Hayes scored

Parker missed
Hassell scored

Barnsely won 4-2 on penalties.

Sorry the report is short, I’ll try and do a more extensive one tommorrow.

Well done the lads, excellent game but glad were out, its the league we need to do well in and after last night efforts we dont need any more especially in a competition like the league cup. As for Parker lets hope someone does come in for him he can then sulk somewhere else, mind thats if anybody wants him!!!

The performance was more important than the result. Glad to concentrate on the league.
