Seaside Battle In The Cup

The Seasiders travel down to Torquay for tomorrow’s FA Cup clash looking to avoid a cup upset, which would top off a bad couple of weeks. However, they won’t have a better chance of progressing through to the 4th round and the last 32 of the competition.

Much like two years ago, ‘Pool are playing non-league opposition. That year Aldershot came to Bloomfield Road and gave a good account of themselves but ultimately were undone by ‘Pool. Hopefully it will be much of the same come Saturday.

The Gulls are looking to bounce back to the Football league, and are currently sitting in the playoffs after a powerful start to the season saw them go several points clear at the top.

And Torquay do have ‘giant killing’ pedigree. Last season they knocked out Yeovil Town 4-1 live on TV. However, the FA Cup head-to-head record stands hugely in our favour, with a 100% win percentage. We even overcame Torquay in the 4th round at 1990.

Goalkeeper Scott Bevan signed a full-time deal this week and continues in goal. Striker Tristan Plummer joins on loan, and isn’t cup-tied.

Roscoe Dsane may make the bench, despite having flu, and Mustapha Carayol’s groin injury will be assessed before they name their team.

Player to watch: Tom Sills

Sills has notched 11 goals so far this season, two of which in the cup, and could prove to be a handful.

GTF serves a one match suspension, but Rob Edwards looks as if he could make the game despite a twinge of the hamstring against Wolves.

‘Pool need to name seven subs, which could see youngsters Morella and Lloyd travel with the team.

It is not known where Crainey, Wright and McPhee are at in their race for fitness.

Player to watch: Joe Martin

Martin was left out of the side against Wolves on Monday, but looks as if he could play on the left wing tomorrow.

Originally a midfielder, it will be interesting to see how Joe does, and he could hold down that place for sometime whilst Tony Parkes tries to bring in reinforcments.
